VISIT TO THE “HOMELAND”

TRANSYLVANIA TRIP

AUGUST 3  -  AUGUST 14, 2006

 

                The ATS, along with our good friend, Eduard Gierscher, from Munich Germany have made plans to conduct a tour of our “Homeland” Transylvania.  An English-speaking tour guide will accompany the group while we are on tour.  The cost of the trip will be $3,200.00 per person for a double person room and $3,500.00 for a single person room.  Your arrangement will include airfare from Cleveland Ohio to Bucharest Romania, 10 night accommodations in three or four-star rated hotels, breakfast buffets and dinners, admissions to sightseeing sites, wine-tasting/dinner and folklore programs.  Your transportation throughout Transylvania will be in a four-star rated motorcoach.  We invite you all to come along and travel the beautiful area of Southern and Northern Transylvania.  As you pass through the countryside and villages, you will be able to envision the way of life of our ancestors.  You will learn of the importance of our Saxon history to this region of Romania and the contribution that our Saxons have made to the fine arts, religion and education, as well as the cultivation of its farmlands and vineyards.  The scheduled itinerary will be as follows:

Day 1 Thursday, August 3, 2006
Departure from Cleveland Hopkins Airport.
Northwest/KLM Airlines

Day 2 Friday, August 4, 2006
Arrival of group at Bucharest Otopeni Airport.
Hotel transfer and check-in.
Dinner and Overnight stay in Bucharest.

Day 3 Saturday, August 5, 2006
Breakfast at the hotel depart for travel to Kronstadt.
Stop at the Royal Palace “Peles in Sinaia.
Lunch at Predeal – a city in the Carpathian Mountains.
Stop at Bran Castle and tour the so-called “Dracula Castle”
Arrive at hotel in Kronstadt or in the mountain resort
“Schullerau” outside of the city of Kronstadt.
Overnight stay in Kronstadt.

Day 4 Sunday, August 6, 2006
Breakfast at the hotel. Tour “Burzenland,” city of Kronstadt and surrounding villages.
Church service. Visit the “Kreuzkirche” in Tartlau, built in the 13th century by the Teutonic Order of Knights. Visit the newly renovated church fortress in Honigberg. Return to hotel. Evening dinner, wine tasting and folklore program at the Restaurant “Hirscher Haus.”
Overnight stay in Kronstadt.

Day 5 Monday, August 7, 2006
Breakfast at hotel. Drive via Reps to Schassburg. Visit the old city with its church fortress, abbey and clock tower. Visit one of the most beautiful church fortresses in Transylvania. Drive to Mediasch. Check into hotel.
Dinner at hotel.
Overnight stay in Mediasch.

Day 6 Tuesday, August 8, 2006
After breakfast a city tour of Mediasch that includes tour of St. Margarete Church and the Stephan Ludwig Roth House. Visit the neighboring villages of Meschen and its church fortress. Return to Mediasch. Afternoon free for shopping, museums, open market. Dinner at Hotel.
Overnight stay in Mediasch.

Day 7 Wednesday, August 9, 2006
Following breakfast at hotel, continue travels towards Bistritz via St. Martin—Neumarkt. Stop at Sachsisch Regen for lunch and quick tour of the city. Arrive at hotel in Bistritz. Dinner at hotel.
Overnight stay in Bistritz.

Day 8 Thursday, August 10, 2006
Breakfast, tour the city of Bistritz. Bistritz’ church has the highest tower in Transylvania. Then continue trip to Klausenburg. Short sightseeing tour of the city with a visit to the market. Check into hotel. Dinner at hotel.
Overnight stay in Klausenburg.

Day 9 Friday, August 11, 2006
Breakfast at hotel. Continue via Thorenburg to Karlsburg; visit the cathedral and the church of King Ferdinand and his wife Maria. Stop in Muehlbach. Arrive in Hermannstadt, check into hotel. Dinner at Hotel.
Overnight stay in Hermannstadt.

Day 10 Saturday, August 12, 2006
Breakfast at hotel. Tour of Hermannstadt with visits to the Bishop residence, the church and the famous museum “Bruckenthal.” Afternoon trip to Kerz to visit the abbey and the church. Return to Hermannstadt with a short stop in Heltau. Dinner at hotel.
Overnight stay in Hermannstadt

Day 11 Sunday, August 13, 2006
Breakfast at hotel. Continue trip along the beautiful valley, of the river Alt, through the mountain pass “Roter Turm” in the southern Carpathian Mountain Range into Muntenia. Visit the Romanian cities of Vilcea and Curtea de Arges and its Monasteries. Arrive in Bucharest, check into hotel. Dinner at hotel.
Overnight stay in Bucharest

Day 12 Monday, August 14, 2006
Breakfast at hotel. Short city tour of Bucharest and them to the Otopeni Airport for return flight to US.
